Aircraft owners also misfuel

American Aircraft owners and Pilots Association, AOPA, is reporting that misfueling occurs at least three times a day, especially with the owners of smaller aircrafts across the USA.

Fuels for motor aircrafts or jet aircrafts are visibly different in colour – red, yellow, blue or black. Nevertheless, the information on the misfueling tells us that the pilots are usually not present when fueling their aircrafts.

Is there a pilot on the plane?

It is interesting that 65 percent of pilots are present when they instruct the maintenance crew to replace the oil, 50 percent of the pilots oversee the air pressure control in the aircraft tires, but only 39 percent are with their “bird” when it is being refueled. They usually just give the instructions and leave.

The AOPA Association recommends that pilots should check the fuel receipt before taking off, since the receipt tells them what kind of fuel was filled. They can also check the fuel visually, according to the colour or maybe even according to a distinctive smell.

Perhaps the SoloDiesel cap (www.solodiesel.eu) should be developed for aircrafts as well.
