How to prevent misfueling?

Misfueling can cost us a lot of money! We have to take some actions to prevent misfueling mistakes. But why do we make such mistakes, and how we can learn from mistakes others made?!

Misfueling occurs mostly because the driver is distracted, she had a stressful day, not concentrating (maybe talking on the phone, talking to passengers, beautiful girl, full moon..)

We all know somebody that knows someone that misfueled at least once, every other person knows someone who did it. We are after all just humans, we make mistakes, misfueling is just one of them, but can cost us a lot of money. Companies are testing different methods for preventing misfueling. For this purpose the diesel nozzle is usually wider and the nozzle is black, but...!

The colours are not reliable!

The petrol nozzle is usually green.. Usually! But I saw that some petrol stations understand this color scheme in their own way. Because of nozzle malfunctions certain colors can be switched with a different kind, the one available at the moment.

Some newer serial vehicles were also equipped with a special opening for the fueling of the “right” fuel. This did not work very well because these vehicles were sold to markets in some countries, which do not follow the approved standards. We can also read on the cap, what is the right fuel for our vehicle. But, let's be honest! I barely notice the sign, and how can people understand English in other countries. That can be a problem..!

Different shapes of funnels?

One of the possible solutions considered by the experts is also different shaped funnels. They would be triangular for the diesel fuel (the nuzzle would be the same shape) and the petrol nozzle would remain the same. Car and nuzzle manufacturers would have to invest a lot of money into this kind of project. But that does not make much sense. Misfueling is, after all, not their mistake!

This kind of mistake can be avoided by fitting the SoloDiesel cap.(www.solodiesel.eu), it can save us a lot of money and nerves!
